Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Dies at 90

Ibadan, Oyo State — The traditional ruler of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90. The highly respected monarch reportedly died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, sending waves of mourning across the ancient city and beyond.

Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin received his staff of office on July 12, 2024, from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, shortly after the death of his predecessor, the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun, who died on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81.

Oba Olakulehin’s short but impactful reign followed the traditions of the Olubadan throne and brought dignity and stability to Ibadanland.

His passing marks the end of another era in the city's royal history, as residents, leaders, and well-wishers express deep condolences and pay tribute to his legacy.

May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
