Nigerian street-hop singer, Portable, has raised concerns over a man reportedly impersonating him at shows. The alarm comes after videos surfaced online showing the lookalike performing his songs at events.
In a firm message to his fans on social media, Portable accused the impersonator of collecting payments for performances while exploiting his name and brand. He revealed that the impersonator had allegedly received as much as ₦250,000 for shows, a figure he described as far below his own fees.
“I collect over ₦10 million for my shows. Nobody should use my name to make money. If they call me for show, I go go o,” he said.
Portable urged his fans to confront anyone pretending to be him but warned that they should not drag him into physical fights. He cautioned that such actions could lead to petitions and police complaints, stressing that his goal was to protect his image and earnings.
The singer noted that impersonation not only costs him income but also threatens his reputation, as fans might confuse the performances with his official shows.
The issue sparked immediate debate online. While some agreed that Portable had every right to protect his brand, others mocked the situation.
Portable don react to his lookalike wey dey collect shows and even perform his songs. He said if he do something now, na same una go dey ask for justice. So anywhere you see his lookalike, do them how you like 😂 pic.twitter.com/Yzku04hzK8
