“What happened years ago, when sponsors destroyed the careers of talented actors” – Kanayo Kanayo Raises Alarm, Takes His Destiny Into His Own Hands

Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has announced the launch of his own YouTube channel, saying he is ready to take control of his destiny and tell authentic stories.

Sharing the news on Instagram, the respected actor explained that good filmmaking is not about “fine faces” but about talent, skill, and performance. He stressed that he doesn’t need glamorous actors to push his movies.

Kanayo expressed concern over a trend he believes is returning to Nollywood — where sponsors and producers sideline talented actors because they do not have the so-called “commercial look.” According to him, this attitude is now visible on YouTube, where only a handful of self-acclaimed stars dominate content.

“What happened years ago when sponsors destroyed the careers of good actors who couldn’t ‘sell films’ is happening again,” he said. “These YouTube faces claim to be booked from September 2025 till August 2026. How do we sustain stories, create magic, or give new actors a chance if it’s only about them? That is not good for the industry.”

Encouraging fresh faces to join his platform, he urged aspiring actors to collaborate with him on Kanayo O. Kanayo TV on YouTube, promising to use the channel to tell powerful stories and nurture new talent.
