“I’m Not Stepping Down for Anybody” – Atiku Abubakar Debunks Claims of Withdrawing from 2027 Race

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports suggesting that he intends to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race for another candidate.

In a statement released by his media aide, Paul Ibe, on Thursday in Abuja, Atiku clarified that his earlier interview with BBC Hausa was misinterpreted by sections of the media.

According to the statement, Atiku never said he would step aside for anyone. Instead, he emphasized that young people and other aspirants are free to contest. He added that if a young candidate emerges through a fair and competitive primary election, he would willingly support that person.

The statement read in part:

“After a thorough review of the video and transcript of the interview — both in Hausa and English — it is clear that at no point did the former Vice President say or imply that he intends to step down for anyone.”

It further warned against twisting his words for sensational headlines.
