Lagos Reveals 160,000 Residents Living With HIV in 2025 Report

The Lagos State Government has revealed that an estimated 160,000 residents are currently living with HIV. The update was shared by the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) during its World AIDS Day 2025 press briefing on Thursday.

Speaking at the briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, LSACA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, said the figure represents the latest data gathered between January and September 2025.

According to her:

“As of January to September 2025, Lagos State has an estimated 160,000 residents living with HIV, and 147,466 of them are already receiving antiretroviral treatment.”

Dr. Animashaun praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continued support, stating that his leadership has strengthened health systems and community networks to ensure effective HIV prevention, detection, and treatment.

She also explained that this year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruptions: Sustaining Nigeria’s HIV Response,” reflects the current challenges in the state—especially after the Stop Work Order issued by the U.S. Government, which affected community-level HIV programs.

The agency stressed the need for sustained efforts to keep HIV services active and accessible across Lagos.
