Veteran Yoruba actor Chief Lere Paimo, popularly known as Eda Onile Ola, is alive and not dead, despite viral reports claiming he passed away at 86.
Earlier today, social media was flooded with false news announcing the actor’s death, and even some reputable outlets repeated the story. However, the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has now debunked the rumour.
In a statement released this morning, the association’s National PRO, Adejonwo Oluwafemi, confirmed that the legendary actor is alive and in good health, after speaking directly with his wife.
The ANTP expressed worry over how quickly false news spreads online and urged the public to always verify information before sharing it.
The statement reads:
“Reports circulating on Facebook about the passing of Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) are false. We have confirmed with Baba Eda Onile Ola’s wife that he is alive and in good health. Please disregard these false reports.”
The association further warned that the misinformation is being spread by “unscrupulous individuals.”
