Nigerians Raise Over ₦600k for Veteran Actor Baba Ariyo After Kunle Afod’s Emotional Appeal

Yoruba Nollywood veteran Baba Ariyo has received massive support from well-meaning Nigerians after actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod raised an alarm about his poor living condition.

According to Kemi Filani, Kunle Afod — who is widely known for visiting sick and elderly Nollywood stars — shared a heartbreaking video showing the veteran actor’s situation. Afod said he visited Baba Ariyo’s home and was shocked by what he saw.

In the clip, Baba Ariyo revealed that he has lived as a tenant for 40 years.

“I visited one of the Nollywood veterans, Baba Ariyo, but what I met is not encouraging. Watch the full video on YouTube, KunleAfod TV,” Afod said.

Following the video, Kunle gave an update that fans had contributed over ₦600,000 to support the veteran. On his YouTube channel, he posted the emotional moment he handed the money to Baba Ariyo. The actor broke down in tears as he received the donation.

This is one of many acts of kindness Kunle Afod has shown towards Nollywood elders.

Two months ago, he paid a condolence visit to Pa Tunbosun Odunsi in Ibadan after the loss of his wife. The emotional video, shared on his Instagram, moved many viewers to tears.

Over the last few years, Kunle Afod has earned admiration for consistently supporting ageing actors. Last year, he visited veteran Charles Olumo (before his death) and was surprised to see him full of energy.

Kunle said he was amazed:

“He was in great spirits… he even jumped. I pray for such grace,” he shared.

In January, Afod made a passionate appeal to colleagues after visiting veteran actress Iya Niwen in Ibadan, urging the industry to bring her back on set.

He also paid a surprise visit to another legend, Lere Paimo (Eda Onile Ola). Kunle expressed joy meeting him for the first time and called for financial support. Nigerians responded generously, donating cash gifts to the veteran.

With each visit and appeal, Kunle Afod continues to shine a light on struggling Nollywood veterans, inspiring many Nigerians to help.
