Ghana’s Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Dennis Fiakpui, has warned that denying a partner s3x may be considered emotional abuse under Ghana’s Domestic Violence Act 732 of 2007.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Oti Regional Deputy Commander explained that women who refuse s3x to their husbands could face charges of emotional abuse, with penalties including up to two years’ imprisonment. He emphasized that the law applies equally to men who deny their wives s3x, and encouraged victims to report such abuse to the police.
ACP Fiakpui said, “If your husbands refuse to eat your food and make you unhappy, causing emotional pain, you can report it to the police. If your husbands come home late and cause distress, you can make a case at DOVSSU.”
He further stressed that women who deny their husbands s3x can also be reported under the law. The warning highlights the legal recognition of emotional abuse in Ghanaian domestic relationships.
