Tinubu Reaffirms Order to Withdraw Police Escorts From VIPs, Says Only He Can Approve Special Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has again ordered the withdrawal of police officers serving as escorts and guards for VIPs. He restated the directive on Wednesday, December 10, during the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja, emphasizing that security personnel must be redirected to tackle kidnapping, terrorism, and other major threats.

The President said any minister, government official, or individual who feels unsafe must route their security request through the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and secure his personal approval. He warned ministries and agencies that no one is allowed to bypass this process.

Tinubu added:

“If you have any security problem because of the nature of your assignment, please contact the IGP and get my clearance.”

To ensure no truly exposed official is left unprotected, Tinubu instructed the Minister of Interior to work with the IGP and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to immediately replace withdrawn police escorts with civil defence officers.

The President also directed the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to set up a committee to review security deployment nationwide and improve intelligence operations. Tinubu stressed that Nigeria must mobilise every available resource and even ordered that forest guards be armed.

On livestock reform, Tinubu handed a document to Vice President Kashim Shettima with a firm instruction:

“Get the NEC to identify which villages or grazing reserves can be salvaged or rehabilitated into ranches and livestock settlements.”

He said this plan is intended to end persistent clashes between herders and farmers and turn the livestock industry into a strong economic driver. Since land belongs to the states, he added that governors must work with the National Economic Council to convert usable grazing areas into livestock villages.
