Nollywood Actress Aunty Ajara Dies After Prolonged Illness

Popular Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, fondly known as Aunty Ajara, has passed away after a long and courageous battle with illness.

Her death was announced on Thursday by Nollywood director, Tobi Oladele Teemony, also known as Tee Mony, in a statement shared on Instagram. According to him, the actress died overnight after receiving intense medical care and support.

“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness,” the statement read.

Teemony revealed that the late actress received immense love, prayers, and financial support from kind-hearted people across Nigeria and beyond during her illness. He expressed deep gratitude to everyone who stood by her and also urged the public to stop sending donations, stating that financial contributions were no longer required.

The announcement was accompanied by a video message from her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, who confirmed her death and appreciated the public for their support.

“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.

He went on to thank Nollywood stakeholders, supporters, and well-wishers for their prayers and financial assistance during her treatment.

“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members,” he added.

Ridwan also appealed to the public to stop sending money to the account earlier shared for her medical treatment.

“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again,” he said.

Aunty Ajara’s death comes about a week after Teemony and other Nollywood figures, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, appealed for urgent financial assistance, explaining that her condition had worsened despite ongoing treatment and support from colleagues and kind-hearted Nigerians.

Earlier reports had indicated that the actress was pregnant and battling a liver-related illness. Her condition reportedly deteriorated to the point where she was placed on oxygen in the hospital.

Several Nollywood stars, including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo, and Ronke Oshodi Oke, had rallied around her and publicly sought help for her treatment.

Her passing has left the Nollywood industry and fans in deep mourning, with many remembering her as a brave actress who fought until the very end.
