“Marriage is not always fair to women” — Yvonne Jegede says marriage is overrated, shares personal view.

Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has described marriage as “overrated,” while stating that she is happy for people who find joy in it.

In an interview with Punch, she explained that her opinion is based on her personal experiences and observations of people around her. According to her, many women face pressure in marriage and are often expected to carry more responsibilities, which she believes creates imbalance in many homes.

Yvonne Jegede noted that although some marriages are happy and successful, her environment and experiences have shaped her belief that marriage does not always favour women. She added that this perspective has remained unchanged over time.

The actress, who is a mother of one, stressed that she respects people who enjoy their marriages and does not dismiss their experiences, even though hers is different.

In her words, she said:

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, marriage is overrated. For people who have found happiness in marriage, I’m genuinely happy for them. But from my perspective and within my environment, marriage doesn’t always favour women.”
