The lawmaker representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Tambuwal, has officially withdrawn from the ongoing political race.
His withdrawal follows the endorsement of former House of Representatives Speaker, Faruk Yabo, as the consensus candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal, who was once a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 general elections, had earlier stepped down in support of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In a related development, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, who previously served as Deputy Governor under Tambuwal during his time as Governor of Sokoto State, has been selected as the ADC consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 elections in the state.
The political moves are seen as part of ongoing realignments ahead of the next general elections in Nigeria.
