2027: “I’m Not Running From Atiku” – Peter Obi

Presidential aspirant Peter Obi has dismissed speculations suggesting that he is avoiding former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Obi spoke on Friday while attending the Spier Dialogue 2026, a pan-African governance forum held in Cape Town.

Addressing the rumours, the former Anambra State governor said he shares a close relationship with Atiku and has great respect for him.

According to Obi:

“There are very few human beings who are as close as I am to Atiku. So I can’t be running from him. This man is my very respected leader and elder brother.”

He further insisted that he has never avoided anyone in politics and simply prefers handling issues in his own way.

“I don’t run from him. Never. It has nothing to do with running from anybody. I’ve never run from anybody. I just believe that I do things differently.”

His comments come amid growing political discussions and recent tensions surrounding their relationship as political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election continue to take shape.
