Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is currently leading in the presidential primaries of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.
Early results released from several states showed Atiku maintaining a comfortable lead over other contestants, including former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
The primaries are being closely watched as the ADC prepares to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Results announced at the party’s collation centre at Transcorp Hilton Abuja showed strong support for Atiku across different states.
In Kebbi State, Atiku secured 65,523 votes, defeating Amaechi, who polled 5,931 votes, while Hayatu-Deen received 454 votes.
In Anambra State, Atiku recorded 58,566 votes, ahead of Amaechi’s 17,085 votes and Hayatu-Deen’s 7,861 votes.
Abia State also favoured Atiku, who scored 25,153 votes. Amaechi received 18,339 votes, while Hayatu-Deen polled 2,264 votes.
In Ekiti State, Atiku gained 18,395 votes, defeating Amaechi, who secured 1,574 votes, while Hayatu-Deen got 149 votes.
Despite the ongoing collation of results, the exercise has continued to generate controversy within the party. Both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen have reportedly questioned the credibility of the primary election, alleging irregularities in the process.
The development has sparked political discussions online as supporters of the candidates continue to react to the early outcome of the ADC presidential race ahead of the 2027 elections.
