Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States carried out coordinated air strikes with Nigerian forces against ISIS fighters in northwestern Nigeria.
According to reports, the military operation took place in Sokoto State and allegedly led to the killing of several ISIS members, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, who was described as the group’s second-in-command globally.
The United States Africa Command stated that the strikes were carried out in partnership with Nigerian authorities. A US official also reportedly confirmed to Reuters that multiple targets were eliminated during the operation.
Trump announced the development on his social media platform, Truth Social, while staying at his Mar-a-Lago residence. In his statement, he praised both American and Nigerian forces for carrying out what he described as a successful and carefully planned mission.
According to Trump:
“Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield.”
He further claimed that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki believed he could hide in Africa, but intelligence sources helped track his activities.
Trump stated that the removal of the ISIS leader would weaken the group’s global operations and prevent future attacks against both Africans and Americans.
The US president also thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation during the mission.
In another part of his statement, Trump said he had previously warned terrorists against attacks on Christians, adding that the latest strikes were part of efforts to stop extremist violence.
He further praised the US military’s ability to conduct precision strikes and vowed that radical Islamic terrorism would not be allowed to thrive under his leadership.
Reports also noted that similar joint operations involving US and Nigerian forces were previously carried out against terrorist groups in Sokoto on December 25, 2025.
