Álvaro Arbeloa, head coach of Real Madrid CF, has said he would be happy if the club appoints José Mourinho as his successor.
Arbeloa described Mourinho as the “number one” choice and a coach he deeply respects, calling him “one of ours” because of his strong past connection with the club.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, and reports suggest he could return to the Santiago Bernabéu after the club ended another season without winning a trophy.
Club president Florentino Pérez is reportedly considering bringing the 63-year-old back to revive the team’s fortunes.
Speaking to reporters, Arbeloa said:
“For me, as a former (Madrid) player and as a Madridista, José Mourinho is number one. He’s one of ours. If he comes back next year, I’ll be very happy to see him back home.”
Arbeloa, who took over coaching duties after replacing Xabi Alonso in January, is expected to leave his position at the end of the season as the club prepares for possible changes in leadership.
