Bala Mohammed has dismissed reports claiming that he has been chosen as the running mate of former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The clarification followed social media speculation that Mohammed would serve as vice-presidential candidate after Jonathan was reportedly adopted as the presidential candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki.
Jonathan was reportedly adopted during a special convention held in Abuja. Although the former president did not attend the event, a certificate of return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.
The rumours gained attention after an ADC chieftain, Nuhu Sada, claimed on social media that Mohammed was being considered as Jonathan’s running mate for the 2027 election.
However, the Bauchi governor strongly denied the reports, stating that he is not involved in any such political arrangement.
In a statement shared on his verified X account, Mohammed said his attention remains focused on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement.
According to him:
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).”
He also urged Nigerians to ignore reports suggesting otherwise.
“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate.”
Mohammed recently left the Peoples Democratic Party amid internal disagreements and leadership challenges within the opposition party. His latest statement appears aimed at putting an end to growing speculation about his political future ahead of the 2027 elections.
