Gunmen have reportedly attacked Gwon-Ajang village in the Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, killing at least seven people and leaving several others injured. The attack occurred on the night of May 31, 2026.
According to reports, the assailants, suspected to be armed herders, invaded the community at about 9:30 p.m. and opened fire on residents, causing panic and chaos in the area. More than 10 people were also said to have sustained injuries during the attack.
The incident was confirmed by Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youths Moulder-Association, who described the attack as another deadly invasion affecting communities in Plateau State.
According to him:
“At least seven persons were reportedly killed in another armed invasion perpetrated by terrorist gangs of Fulani at about 9:30 p.m. or thereabout on 31st May, 2026 in Gwon-Ajang village of Foron District, Barkin Ladi LGA.”
Tengwong also revealed that security officials were reportedly caught off guard by the attack, noting that there were no obvious warning signs before the gunmen struck.
Reports indicate that several victims were gathered at a social event when the attackers arrived and began shooting indiscriminately.
The latest violence has once again raised concerns about the recurring security challenges facing communities in Plateau State, with residents calling for stronger protection and urgent intervention from security agencies.
