Tinubu Approves ₦10 Billion Emergency Fund to Prepare for Possible Ebola Outbreak

President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of ₦10 billion in emergency funding to strengthen Nigeria’s preparedness against a possible Ebola outbreak following the resurgence of cases in some parts of Africa.

The approval was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the emergency fund is aimed at boosting the country’s health security system and improving its ability to respond quickly to any public health threat that may arise.

A significant portion of the funding will be directed to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention to enhance its preparedness and response capabilities. The funds will also support critical public health emergency activities across the country.

The presidency stated that the intervention is designed to strengthen the operations of the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and ensure that Nigeria is adequately prepared to handle any potential outbreak before it spreads.

As part of the preventive measures, President Tinubu also approved the creation of a Presidential Task Force on Ebola Virus Disease Preparedness and Emerging Public Health Threats. The task force is expected to coordinate national efforts, monitor developments, and ensure effective response strategies are in place.

The move comes amid growing concerns over renewed Ebola cases reported in parts of Africa, with authorities seeking to prevent a repeat of previous outbreaks by taking proactive measures to protect public health and national safety.
