Tragedy as Missing NYSC Member Is Found De@d in Bayelsa Community

A search for a missing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Bayelsa State has ended in tragedy after his lifeless body was reportedly recovered in Nembe Local Government Area, sparking grief among colleagues, friends, and the academic community.

The deceased, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, was serving his mandatory national service in Nembe at the time of the incident. Before joining the NYSC, he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, where he also served as the institution's Student Union Government (SUG) President.

According to reports, Chimaroke's body was recovered from a body of water in the Nembe area after he had earlier been declared missing. While some sources alleged that he may have been attacked by unidentified persons before his death, authorities have not officially confirmed the cause or circumstances surrounding the incident.

His disappearance had prompted the Bayelsa State Police Command to launch a search operation after a missing person report was filed by fellow corps members.

According to police sources, the case was reported at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by corps member Aribisola Bisi Isaac, who was accompanied by Adeola Marvelous. The report indicated that the Local Government Inspector informed them that the 27-year-old corps member, who was posted to serve in Nembe Creek, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on July 24.

After repeated attempts to reach him through his mobile phone numbers failed, concerns grew over his safety, prompting security agencies to begin an extensive search.

Police officers were subsequently deployed to the creek community—located approximately 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters—to search for the missing corps member and investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

The discovery of Chimaroke's body has since thrown his family, friends, fellow corps members, and former classmates into mourning, with many expressing shock over the tragic development.

As of the time of filing this report, the Bayelsa State Police Command had yet to officially confirm the exact cause of death, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine what transpired and ensure anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
