The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC), Trade Union Side, has issued an August 11 ultimatum to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, demanding urgent action over unresolved welfare issues affecting federal workers.
In a letter signed by the council's National Secretary, Gbenga Olowoyo, on behalf of the National Chairman, Benjamin Yanto, the union called on the minister to convene an emergency meeting to address the delay in the payment of two months' wage award and the implementation of the 40% peculiar allowance approved for federal workers.
The council expressed disappointment that two previous letters sent to the ministry had gone unanswered, warning that the continued silence could trigger widespread dissatisfaction among public servants.
According to the union, the proposed meeting is aimed at finding an amicable resolution to the outstanding welfare demands and preventing what it described as a brewing industrial crisis within the public service.
Among the key issues raised are the payment of the March and April 2026 wage awards, which remain outstanding, as well as the full implementation of the 40% peculiar allowance approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
The JNPSNC cautioned that failure to resolve the matter before the August 11 deadline could lead to unrest and industrial action by federal workers, urging the government to act swiftly to avert a potential nationwide labour crisis.
