The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections, confirming the names of those cleared to contest various elective positions across the country.
Among the most notable omissions is former President Goodluck Jonathan, whose name did not appear on the list despite claims by the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it had submitted him as the party's presidential candidate.
Also absent from the final list are several high-profile politicians, including Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North), former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel (Ogun East), former Gombe State Governor Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central), and Senator Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South).
The development comes months after Senate President Godswill Akpabio assured lawmakers who lost their tickets during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries that the party leadership was working to resolve grievances through its Primary Election Appeal Committee.
Although the APC reportedly reinstated six serving senators following the review of petitions, several influential politicians who had hoped to secure a return to the ballot were ultimately left out of the final list submitted to INEC.
In Delta North, Senator Ned Nwoko failed to make the final list after losing the APC senatorial primary, with former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa officially emerging as the party's candidate for the district.
The publication of the final candidate list marks a major milestone in preparations for the 2027 general elections, setting the stage for what is expected to be a fiercely contested nationwide campaign.
