Veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs has died, according to an announcement made by his family on social media early Wednesday morning.
The family announced his passing in a statement expressing gratitude to God for his life and legacy. They described the late actor as their beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, while also honouring him as “The Lion of Lufodo.”
The statement read:
“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo, Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs (MFR).”
Olu Jacobs was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most respected actors, with a career that spanned several decades across stage, television and film.
Before becoming a major figure in Nigeria’s film industry, Jacobs appeared on British television in the 1970s. He later returned to Nigeria and became involved in film production and acting during the 1980s.
Throughout his career, the actor brought extensive stage and international experience to Nigerian entertainment, taking on a wide range of characters and contributing significantly to the development of Nollywood.
His death marks the loss of one of the industry’s most celebrated veterans, whose work connected Nigerian theatre and film with the broader international entertainment scene.
