Nigerian singer and entrepreneur Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has expressed optimism about becoming Afrobeats’ first US dollar billionaire, saying the milestone could be closer than expected.
The singer made this known during an interview with Capital XTRA, where he was asked whether he was on track to become a billionaire.
Responding humorously, Mr Eazi explained that he had already crossed the billionaire threshold when measured in Nigerian naira and other African currencies. However, when asked specifically about becoming a billionaire in US dollars, the singer suggested that it was only a matter of time.
“US dollars, you know, soon come. I'm not really looking for that, that's not the target. But I see it; it's coming. Anytime now,” he said.
Despite his confidence, Mr Eazi stressed that accumulating wealth was not his primary goal. He indicated that having the freedom to pursue his creative interests and manage his businesses on his own terms mattered more to him than reaching a particular financial milestone.
Beyond music, Mr Eazi has built business interests across different sectors, including international technology and ticketing ventures, as well as betting partnerships involving Choplife Gaming. His business activities have contributed to his reputation as an artiste who is also focused on entrepreneurship.
During the interview, the singer was also asked about comparisons between him and American rap mogul Jay-Z, who is widely known for combining a successful music career with business investments.
Mr Eazi appeared comfortable with the comparison and jokingly drew a parallel between their marriages. Referring to Jay-Z’s marriage to American singer Beyoncé, he said: “Jay-Z is Jay-Z. I'm Mr Eazi. Jay-Z has Beyoncé, I have Temi.”
The remark was a reference to his marriage to actress and billionaire heiress Temi Otedola, daughter of Nigerian businessman Femi Otedola.
Mr Eazi’s comments have once again highlighted the growing conversation around wealth creation among African musicians, particularly artistes who are expanding their influence beyond entertainment into business and investment.
While the singer did not provide a specific timeline or financial figures to support his prediction, he maintained that becoming a US dollar billionaire was a possibility he could see on the horizon.
