On this day back then July 29th in 1966, Johnson Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi, Second Nigerian Head of State and Adekunle Fajuyi, First Military Governor of then Western Region, were assassinated by a group of Northern army soldiers who revolted against Aguiyi-Ironsi government.
