Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has made groundbreaking announcements aimed at alleviating the transportation and economic challenges faced by residents. The Governor revealed plans to increase the number of Lagos State staff buses and confirmed the purchase of new buses that will be distributed soon.
As part of the measures to ease the burden on commuters, a significant 50% reduction in transportation fare will be implemented for buses operated by BRT, under the watch of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). This fare reduction is set to take effect from Wednesday, August 2.
Furthermore, leaders of the transport workers in the informal sector (danfo) are also expected to announce a 25% reduction in their transport fares today, further easing the cost of transportation for citizens.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that these decisions were taken in response to the recent removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government and the prevailing harsh economic conditions in the country.
In addition to the transportation relief, the state will be launching a distribution initiative for food packs containing rice, beans, and cassava flour (garri) to support vulnerable individuals in the state. These pro-people initiatives signal the state government's commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the people of Lagos during these trying times.
