"A Huge Congrats To The Talented African Artists Who Were Nominated Alongside Me" Burna Boy Breaks Silence Following Grammy Nominations

Afrobeat star Burna Boy has taken to Twitter (now called X) to express his gratitude following the announcement of his four nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards. In his message, he thanked the Grammy Academy for the honor and gave a special mention to fellow artists Davido, Olamide, Ayra Starr, and Asake, who shared the nomination spotlight with him. Burna Boy emphasized that the real triumph lies in experiencing these moments together with his peers during his live performances and expressing these emotions through his music.

Burna Boy's four Grammy nominations include "Sittin’ On Top Of The World" for Best Melodic Rap Performance, "I Told Them…" for Best Global Music Album, "Alone" for Best Global Music Performance, and "City Boys" for Best African Music Performance. This remarkable achievement makes him the most nominated Nigerian artist on the 66th Grammy Awards nominations list.

The Recording Academy, responsible for organizing the Grammy Awards, declared Burna Boy as the biggest artist in Africa in an article on their website. They described him as firmly in his imperial era, citing his numerous high-profile collaborations. This recognition solidifies Burna Boy's status as a prominent figure in the Afrobeats genre and the entire African music scene.

The news also references Burna Boy's controversial comments weeks prior, where he criticized 90 percent of Afrobeat songs for lacking real-life experience and substance. This drew backlash, with his junior colleague Rema addressing the issue during an award acceptance, asserting that, regardless of Burna Boy's opinion on Afrobeats, they would all meet at Afrobeats award shows.
