The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has passed away at the age of 67. Reportedly, he died in Lagos on Wednesday. The governor had been under the care of State House doctors up to his demise, as he could not be flown abroad for medical treatment. The news of Akeredolu's death was confirmed by a reliable source, stating that efforts were made last week to arrange dialysis machines for him at his undisclosed location in Lagos.
It's worth noting that the ailing governor had returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany. Subsequently, he took another medical leave as directed by President Bola Tinubu, during which his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, assumed the role of acting governor. Akeredolu's attempt to govern remotely from Ibadan, Oyo State, following his return to Nigeria in September, sparked public outrage. His wife, Betty, has also suspended activities planned for her 70th birthday celebration.
