“I Was Collecting N4,000 For A Lead Role In 2014” Actor Lateef Adedimeji Reflects On Early Career Struggles And Advice From His Father

In a recent interview on the Tejubabyface show with Teju Oyelakin, Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji shared insights about his early career struggles. He revealed that as recently as 2014, he was being paid just N4,000 for a lead role. It wasn't until 2015 that he started receiving higher payments, ranging from N100,000 to N200,000.

Adedimeji also recounted advice from his father about the nature of success and its challenges. His father told him that he would know he is successful when women begin to surround him, seeking his attention. However, his father warned that the real test of his success would be his ability to exercise self-control and not get distracted by these women, emphasizing that while female attention often accompanies success, it can also lead to one's downfall.

Reflecting on his journey, Adedimeji noted, "If I tell people that I wasn’t collecting N100,000, N200,000 until 2015/16, a lot of people would not believe me. Before then, the highest I collected for a lead role was either N4,000, N5,000, or N10,000. I was paid that low back in 2014 because it was more like a learning process.”

His father's words continue to resonate with him, highlighting the dual-edged nature of fame and the importance of maintaining discipline and focus amid success.
