"I'm a Feminist, But I Don't Support Women Disrespecting Their Husbands" – Funke Akindele Reveals

Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele has openly identified as a feminist but clarified that she does not support women disrespecting their husbands.

During an interview with skit maker Kamo State and his wife, Akindele emphasized that women are not the “weaker sex” and should be treated with respect. She stressed the importance of confidence and strength among women, urging men to support and value them beyond traditional roles.

“I’m a feminist, but I do not support a woman disrespecting her husband. Do what is right,” she stated.

The award-winning actress and producer further highlighted the need for gender equality, encouraging men to see women as equals rather than relegating them to domestic duties. She insisted that men should not believe that women belong only in the kitchen or should be spoken to without regard.

Akindele also underscored the importance of financial independence for women, urging them to build economic stability so they can contribute to their homes and support their spouses when necessary.

“We women are strong and bold. Also, our economic power is important. That is why we should make sure we have financial independence and protect it so we can support our husbands,” she added.

Her remarks have sparked discussions online, with many praising her balanced view on feminism and marriage.
