Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has shared details about his failed marriage and the emotional toll it took on him. In an interview on Nollywood Hardcore: The Legend’s Untold Story, Anuku revealed that his marriage to his ex-wife from Asaba ended due to incompatibility.
The actor disclosed that the separation left him traumatized, making him reluctant to marry a Nigerian woman again. Instead, he expressed a preference for Caucasian women, stating that he found them more compatible during his time abroad.
Anuku clarified that his ex-wife was not the mother of his children but had a stepdaughter from a previous relationship. He has been divorced for over a decade and has two children with another woman, but he emphasized that their relationship is purely platonic.
Reflecting on his past relationships, Anuku admitted that he has yet to find the deep, unconditional "agape love" he desires in a marriage. He believes a strong connection is essential for a lasting relationship, and he is not willing to settle for less.
Despite his experiences, the actor remains open to love and marriage but is cautious about Nigerian women. He recounted that his ex-wife frequently demanded money and even asked him to quit acting out of jealousy. This, he said, contributed to their separation.
Anuku noted that during his time overseas, he never dated African women and felt more at ease with Caucasian partners. While he believes it may be too late to start over, he remains hopeful that he might find love during future travels.
