Renowned Nigerian Fuji musician, Alhaji Taye Currency, has spoken openly about his close relationship with his senior colleague, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, and the strong influence Pasuma has had on his career.
In a recent interview on Akede Ariya Online TV’s official YouTube channel, Taye Currency described Pasuma as his boss and mentor, who helped pave the way for his success in the Fuji music industry.
He appealed to fans from both sides to stop insulting each other online. In his words:
“Pasuma and I are not fighting each other; we understand ourselves better than people think. His fans have been bullying me online, and my fans are also attacking him. Pasuma is my boss, and his fans should stop abusing me. He paved the way for me in music.”
It will be recalled that Taye Currency recently made headlines when he publicly apologized to Pasuma for a comment he made, which some fans misunderstood.
In a viral video clip, Taye Currency, who hails from Ibadan, explained that many people misinterpreted his words during a stage performance and that only he and Pasuma truly understand their relationship.
He shared the history between them, noting that before he gained fame, he used to call himself Taye Paso because of his similar singing style to Pasuma. In the Fuji music hierarchy, Pasuma is known as Arabambi 2, while K1 De Ultimate is the original Arabambi, and Taye Currency holds the title of Arabambi 3rd.
Speaking in Yoruba during the interview, Taye Currency affectionately said:
“Egbon mi ni Paso, ko to mi bi,” meaning, “Pasuma is my elder brother; he is senior to me.”
Fans have reacted positively to his statement, praising him for his humility and respect toward Pasuma, and calling for unity among their supporters.
