"Reason Why We Actors Don’t Like to Age" – Jaiye Kuti Expresses Passion for Acting

Veteran Nollywood actress Jaiye Kuti has reaffirmed her deep love for acting, stating that she has no plans to retire and hopes to remain on screen even at the age of 80.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, the actress emphasized that acting is a lifelong career, unlike conventional jobs where retirement is inevitable. "I see myself still acting at the age of 80. This is not a profession one retires from. Even at 100, they might say, ‘Just sit down, we want to see your face.’ That’s how beautiful this job is,” she said.

She noted that in the entertainment industry, appearances matter, as actors sell their faces, bodies, and personalities. Therefore, staying youthful and presentable is essential.

Kuti also stressed the importance of constantly improving one’s craft. "Some people are naturally gifted, but talent must be renewed daily to stay relevant," she explained.

The actress highlighted the significance of rebranding and self-care in maintaining longevity in the industry. "That is why it doesn’t look like we are getting old. Yes, one is aging every day, but we just focus on rebranding," she added.

On her personal fitness routine, Kuti revealed that she prioritizes walking over driving whenever possible. "I love walking. It helps the skin and relaxes the nerves. I also drink a lot of water," she shared.

Discussing Nollywood’s evolving standards, she acknowledged that the industry now demands high-quality productions. "A few years ago, one could get away with anything, but today, we must meet global standards. I produce both YouTube and cinema movies because we all want the world to see what we have," she stated.

She concluded by encouraging young actors to remain dedicated and resilient in their careers, reminding them that success requires hard work and perseverance.
