Veteran Nollywood actress, Tola Oladokun, has showered praises on her younger colleague, Funke Akindele, for playing a key role in reviving and boosting her acting career.
Speaking in a recent episode of Oyinmomo TV, the respected actress opened up about her life, career journey, and how her relationship with Funke Akindele began. She revealed that she met Funke during the early days of the Yoruba traditional movie Odun Ifa, when Funke was still learning the ropes in Nollywood.
According to Tola, it was fellow actress Lala who first introduced her to Funke. At the time, Funke wanted her to feature in her movie "Agbefo", but Tola couldn’t accept the role because she was already busy with another film project.
Despite that, Funke did not give up. After finishing "Agbefo", she reached out again—this time through Lala—and offered her another opportunity. From that moment, their working relationship grew stronger.
Tola fondly recalled that since their first collaboration, Funke has consistently invited her to feature in several projects, including the popular movie "Jenifa", which became a turning point in their professional connection.
"During the days of Odun Ifa, when Funke was still new in the industry, we first met. Lala introduced her to me. I couldn’t act in her movie Agbefo then because I was already booked. But after the production, Funke still reached out through Lala and offered me another role. Since then, she’s always called me whenever there’s work, even before Jenifa,” she said.
The touching revelation has sparked admiration on social media, with many fans praising Funke Akindele for her humility, loyalty, and commitment to supporting older colleagues in the industry.
