Veteran Actor Razaq Olayiwola "Ojopagogo" Recounts Heartbreaking Loss of His Wife While on Movie Set

Veteran Nollywood actor Razaq Olayiwola, popularly known as Ojopagogo, has shared a deeply emotional account of how he tragically lost his first wife, Funmilayo, in the year 2000 while filming a movie in Abeokuta.

Speaking in a recent interview cited by Famous9ja, the actor recounted how his late wife, who was in perfect health before he left home, had encouraged him to take up the movie role. The project, titled Osuwon, was directed by fellow actor Ebun Oloyede, also known as Olaiya Igwe.

According to Ojopagogo, the night before he travelled, heavy rainfall had prevented him from going out. Funmilayo, showing her usual support, went out to borrow an umbrella for him so he could make the trip.

“She told me Olaiya had never called us for work before and that I should go. Till I got to Abeokuta, my body wasn’t at ease. I wasn’t even playful on set that evening,” he recalled.

The tragedy unfolded the next day when he was informed—without any initial details—that one of his relatives would be coming to meet him on set. It wasn’t until the relative arrived that he learned of Funmilayo’s passing.

Still in disbelief, Ojopagogo travelled back home. Along the way, he sensed something was wrong when he saw his father waiting to console him. Upon entering the house in Oyo, he was surrounded by grieving family and friends.

“I kept saying there was nothing wrong with her. It wasn’t until I left Oyo and returned to Ibadan that the reality fully hit me,” he said with sorrow.

Ojopagogo described Funmilayo as his “backbone” and the mother of their children. Her sudden death, especially during such a pivotal moment in his career, left him devastated and in shock for a long time.

His story has touched many hearts across the entertainment industry and among fans, shedding light on the personal pain behind the spotlight.
