The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has dismissed claims that he smokes marijuana, describing the allegations as false and malicious.
In a viral video from a public event, the monarch strongly denied the accusations, saying: “They are lying against me. They are unfortunate people. Unless I am smoking marijuana—if I am a smoker, may God remove me from this throne. You who are accusing me of being a smoker, God will punish you.”
His statement comes just days after the Court of Appeal upheld his enthronement as the paramount ruler of Iwoland. Oba Akanbi hailed the court’s decision as a divine affirmation of his reign, stressing that his leadership is ordained by God and cannot be undermined by human schemes.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Iwo’s cultural heritage while modernizing its traditions. According to him, his reign has drawn federal recognition and reshaped the image of Iwo positively. The monarch further criticized his legal challengers, describing their efforts as wasteful and counterproductive.
Oba Akanbi is no stranger to controversy. In the past, he was suspended by the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers after a physical altercation with another monarch. Years ago, another controversy arose when a video allegedly released by his ex-wife surfaced online, purportedly showing him rolling a joint.
