The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed media reports claiming that armed men raided a students’ lodge and abducted 15 students in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, in Uyo, the police clarified that no abduction took place and described the earlier reports as misleading.
According to the statement, the incident that was reported as a kidnapping was actually a lawful operation carried out by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from the Uyo Zonal Office.
Part of the statement read:
“The attention of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has been drawn to misleading publications in the media that armed men raided a students’ lodge, abducted 15 students and carted away valuable properties in Ikot Ekpene. The command wishes to categorically state that no abduction occurred. The operation in question was a lawful exercise by EFCC operatives.”
DSP John added that the police received a distress call around 4:30 a.m. on October 24, 2025, about a suspected armed robbery in Ikot Uboh Village, Ikot Ekpene. Police teams were immediately mobilized to the area, where they discovered that the situation involved EFCC officers conducting a legal operation.
The Command urged the public to disregard false media reports and remain calm, assuring residents of continued safety and transparency in all law enforcement activities within the state.
