Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has safely arrived in Abuja after being urgently evacuated from Guinea-Bissau following a sudden military coup.
Jonathan touched down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday evening, November 27.
The former president had been in Guinea-Bissau as the head of the West African Elders Forum Election Observation Mission, where he monitored last Sunday’s presidential and legislative elections. His presence in the country became a major concern after the military announced that it had taken over power, raising fears among Nigerians about his safety.
Fortunately, Jonathan was airlifted out of Guinea-Bissau earlier in the evening and is now back in Nigeria safely.
