“Osimhen Breaks Silence: ‘I Handle Pressure with Pure Calm’”

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has addressed criticism over his missed chances during Nigeria’s 4–1 extra-time victory against Gabon, saying he remains calm under pressure and always works to correct his mistakes.

A video shared on Instagram by sports journalist @iamcalisports on Thursday captured Osimhen speaking about the ups and downs of being a top striker. He explained that even though he sometimes misses chances people expect him to score, it doesn’t affect his confidence.

“Sometimes I score the goal no one believes I can score, and sometimes I miss the ones people think I’ll score,” he said. “But that doesn’t take away from my mentality.”

Osimhen missed two clear chances in the second half but later redeemed himself with a goal in extra time. He said he immediately apologised to his teammates and promised to make it right—something he was glad he fulfilled.

“At first, I told them I’m sorry, and I told them I would correct it in extra time. I’m happy I did it,” he said.

He praised the players for their support and strong team spirit:
“Kudos to the guys who gave me the assist to score those two goals. I’m happy about the mentality of the team.”

Osimhen also thanked Super Eagles fans around the world for standing by the team.

“This win is also for them,” he said.

Looking ahead, the striker admitted the next round would be tough but promised total commitment:
“We will give everything to make sure we go to the final.”

Osimhen scored twice in the match, helping Nigeria secure victory over Gabon on Thursday at the Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco.
