Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has spoken out in defence of celebrities who choose to respond to online bullies. This comes shortly after she clapped back at a troll who mocked her for having only one child.
Reacting to the criticism that public figures should ignore insults, Wumi explained that fame does not make celebrities less human. She stressed that people often forget that entertainers have emotions and feel pain just like everyone else.
In her words:
“Some say public figures shouldn’t respond to bullies, but they forget we bleed the same way. Fame doesn’t cancel feelings; we are humans first. They say silence is strength, but a lot of times, silence is just a wounded human trying to stay composed.”
Her statement has sparked conversations online as many fans agree that celebrities also deserve empathy and respect.
