Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has strongly criticised the government following the fatal road accident involving world-famous boxer Anthony Joshua.
Reports confirmed on Monday that Anthony Joshua was involved in a road crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in the Makun area of Ogun State. The boxer was said to be travelling in a Lexus SUV when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck. Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries, but two people in the vehicle sadly lost their lives on the spot.
Reacting to the incident on his Instagram page, AY expressed deep sadness and frustration, saying that human lives are being taken for granted in Nigeria. He lamented that a Nigerian who has proudly represented the country on the global stage returned home, only for two of his close associates to die on Nigerian roads.
AY described the tragedy as a clear failure of the country’s road safety systems, poor infrastructure, and weak leadership. He questioned how many more people must die before urgent action is taken to make Nigerian roads safer.
The comedian stressed that any country that cannot protect its citizens needs serious accountability. He called on the government to prioritise safer roads, proper law enforcement, effective emergency response systems, and leadership that values human life.
AY also shared his sympathy with Anthony Joshua and the families of the deceased, saying his heart is heavy over the tragic loss. He prayed for comfort for everyone affected and urged the nation to do better, warning that lives depend on it.
