President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year break and preparations for an official visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President will attend the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit following an invitation from the UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The summit is scheduled to hold in early January.
The weeklong event is expected to bring together global leaders from government, business, and civil society to discuss and promote sustainable development. The 2026 edition of the summit will be held under the theme, “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” with a focus on linking innovation, finance, and people to drive sustainable growth worldwide.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the summit.
His trip comes shortly after he arrived in Lagos to spend the end-of-year holidays, following official visits to Borno and Bauchi states. Upon his arrival in Lagos, the President was received at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, other government officials, and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
