Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has stirred reactions on social media after sharing a video of himself visiting his late parents’ graves with his two sons.
In the video posted on his Instagram page, the actor explained that whenever he returns to his hometown, he makes it a habit to visit his parents’ graves to pray for the repose of their souls. According to him, this recent visit was special because he decided to take his sons along so they could learn and understand the family tradition.
Kanayo said he hopes his children will one day do the same for him when he is gone. He described the act as a personal and cultural practice that means a lot to him.
His post quickly generated mixed reactions from fans and followers. While many praised him for teaching his children tradition and respect for ancestors, others disagreed, saying prayers should not be directed to the dead.
Social media reactions include:
Leo Edochie wrote, “You’re raising them well. God bless you.”
lbs_619 commented, “I like the way you teach your children traditions. God bless you, sir.”
chijiok01 said, “Our tradition, our heritage. Keep it up, sir.”
goldenharvestacresltd disagreed, writing, “This is a bad practice. The dead have nothing to do with the living. You can’t pray to dead people.”
gbaralesuzor01 added, “I love how you raise your boys.”
Despite the differing opinions, Kanayo’s post has continued to draw attention, with many applauding his openness about culture, family values, and legacy.
