“You always cry and beg me not to leave, saying you once ran m@d” – Ashabi speaks out on New Year clash with Portable

Nollywood actress Ashabi has finally spoken up about her recent altercation with her singer baby daddy, Portable, which sparked controversy online at the start of the New Year.

It was earlier reported that the pair were involved in a heated argument captured in a viral video, where Ashabi was heard crying and telling the singer to kill her. Following the backlash, Portable shared his own version of events on Instagram, claiming Ashabi came to his house to attack his family. He alleged that his pregnant wife, Bewaji, was beaten, that guns were pointed at his children, and that Ashabi’s mother accused him of using spiritual charms on her daughter.

Responding to these claims, Ashabi released a video explaining what she said truly happened. According to her, she went to Portable’s house with her siblings to celebrate the New Year peacefully. However, she alleged that the situation turned violent when Portable pushed and slapped her.

Ashabi claimed that the singer brought out an axe, seized their phones by force, punched her younger brother in the eye—leaving him unable to open it—and slapped her younger sister. Fearing for her safety, she said she ran into his office to hide. She further alleged that Portable poured water from a calabash on the floor and later threatened to cut her with the axe when she tried to leave.

Addressing public criticism about why she is still involved with Portable despite their issues, Ashabi said people do not understand what happens behind closed doors. She claimed the singer often cries and begs her not to leave him, saying he would run mad if she did. She explained that it is difficult for her to walk away completely because he is the father of her children and, according to her, struggles with mental health challenges.

Ashabi also strongly denied claims that she assaulted Portable’s wife, Bewaji. She described the allegation as false and said she was disappointed that Bewaji did not publicly deny it. According to Ashabi, she and Bewaji have never even met face to face.

Concluding her statement, Ashabi said she would rather remain a baby mama than accept marriage under disrespectful or abusive conditions.

The incident has continued to generate heated reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for calm, accountability, and protection for everyone involved as the drama between the former lovers unfolds publicly.
