Beautiful Nubia Accuses Yinka Ayefele and BBO of Copying His Song Melody

Veteran Nigerian folk singer Beautiful Nubia has publicly accused two gospel musicians of copying melodies from his original song without permission.

In a strongly worded post shared on Instagram, the respected songwriter claimed that parts of his track Seven Lives were used without his approval.

He pointed to an alleged first incident in 2012 involving gospel singer Yinka Ayefele. According to Beautiful Nubia, Ayefele’s song My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti), released that year, borrowed its melody from Seven Lives.

“There was Yinka Ayefele with ‘My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)’ in 2012,” he wrote.

The folk singer also mentioned a more recent case involving gospel artist BBO and his song Amin. He alleged that the track also copied heavily from his original composition.

“Now someone called BBO with Amin this year,” he added.

Beautiful Nubia insisted that both songs used significant elements of his melody. In his post, he questioned when Nigerian musicians, especially those in the gospel genre, would begin to respect copyright laws.

“When will Nigerians (especially so-called gospel singers) learn to respect copyright? Stealing is stealing; it has no other name. Well, you could call it thievery,” he wrote.

His comments have since sparked conversations online about intellectual property rights and the need for originality in the Nigerian music industry.
