“I’m Not Going to Apologise to Monday Okpebholo; I Posted His WAEC Results So Edo People Can See Who Is Governing Them. I Feel Bad for His Kids” — Davido

Afrobeats superstar Davido has firmly rejected calls for him to apologise to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo following their recent public clash on social media.

The disagreement reportedly dates back to the election period when Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, accusing him of spending too much time dancing and questioning his seriousness as a governor.

Davido responded angrily to the governor’s comments. In a controversial move, the singer shared what he claimed was a copy of Okpebholo’s WASSCE results, highlighting several grades marked “D7.” He also questioned whether the governor personally writes his social media posts.

The singer’s response attracted criticism from some Nigerians, with detractors accusing him of disrespecting an older person and a sitting state governor. However, Davido has shown no sign of backing down.

Speaking during a recent interview, the singer maintained that he had done nothing wrong and therefore had no reason to apologise.

Davido explained that his intention was to expose what he described as the governor’s academic record to the people of Edo State. He also accused Okpebholo of leaving his own state during the election period to interfere in another state’s politics before criticising his uncle.

The singer further challenged the legitimacy of Okpebholo’s election, alleging that the governor was “selected” rather than elected and claiming that he did not understand what it meant to win an election.

Davido also criticised Okpebholo over his comments about Adeleke, arguing that a governor should not travel to another state to ridicule a sitting governor.

The singer said he felt sorry for Okpebholo’s children because they might eventually see and be affected by the public controversy surrounding their father.

“I am not going to apologise. I didn't do anything wrong. I was only letting the people of the state know the kind of results their governor has.”

Davido went on to accuse Okpebholo of abusing a sitting governor in his own state, insisting that he was only responding to what he considered an unfair attack on his uncle.

The latest comments suggest that the dispute between the singer and the Edo governor remains unresolved, with Davido standing firmly by his earlier remarks despite the backlash they generated online.

The controversy has continued to generate reactions on social media, with Nigerians divided between those supporting Davido’s defence of his uncle and those who believe the singer went too far in attacking a sitting governor.
