Kemi Afolabi Questions Muslims Who Donate Money to NGOs During Ramadan but Haven’t Rendered the Same Help to Needy Members of Their Families

Nollywood actress Kemi Afolabi has sparked conversation online after calling out Muslims who donate to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) during Ramadan but allegedly neglect needy members of their own families.

In a post shared on her Instagram page, the actress questioned whether those giving money to NGOs that feed random people during the holy month have extended the same support to widows, unemployed relatives, and other struggling family members.

Kemi stressed that charity should begin at home, urging Muslims to reflect on their priorities during Ramadan. According to her, while supporting public causes is commendable, it is equally important to look inward and assist vulnerable people within one’s immediate family.

Her statement has generated mixed reactions on social media. While some users agreed with her stance, saying family members should not be overlooked, others argued that charity has no boundaries and that helping through NGOs also benefits the wider community.

The actress’ remarks have since added to ongoing discussions about the true spirit of giving and responsibility during Ramadan.
