The Lagos State Government has issued a strong warning to operators of articulated vehicles, tankers, and trucks, urging them to strictly obey traffic laws and speed limits.
The warning was given by the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, in a statement released after a recent road accident in the state. Giwa was reacting to a crash caused by speeding, involving a heavy-duty truck carrying Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and a privately owned car.
The accident occurred at the crest of Apakun Bridge, inward Oshodi. According to Giwa, the state government will not hesitate to apply the full weight of the law on anyone found endangering lives through reckless or unlawful driving.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck, with registration number EKY 120 YK, was speeding and violated traffic safety rules before crashing into a moving silver Toyota Corolla with registration number EKY 289 HM. The impact of the collision caused serious traffic disruption and posed a major threat to lives and property in the area.
Giwa added that two pedestrians were hit during the incident, while the driver of the Toyota Corolla sustained serious injuries. The government reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives on Lagos roads.
