Trump Announces “Massive” US-Israel Operation Against Iran, Warns of Severe Consequences

U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday, February 28, announced that American and Israeli forces have launched what he described as a “massive and ongoing operation” against Iran.

In an eight-minute video shared on Truth Social, Trump said the military action is aimed at stopping Iran’s leadership from threatening the United States and its allies, including Israel. He warned Iranian forces to surrender or face serious consequences.

According to Trump, the goal of the operation is to weaken Iran’s military strength. He said the campaign would target Iran’s missiles, missile industry, and navy, and would also prevent armed groups in the region from causing instability.

The announcement follows weeks of rising tension between Washington and Tehran. Trump had been pressuring Iran to agree to a new nuclear deal and had criticized its government over its handling of protests earlier this year.

Before the operation began, the United States moved more than a dozen naval ships and aircraft into the Middle East. The military buildup happened while American and Iranian officials were still holding indirect talks about Iran’s nuclear program.

Despite the strikes, diplomatic efforts had continued earlier in the month. Negotiators from both sides met indirectly in Oman in early February and later held two more rounds of talks in Switzerland. Iranian officials had described the discussions as positive, and Trump had previously said Iran was interested in reaching an agreement.

Badr Albusaidi, the Foreign Minister of Oman, who helped mediate the talks, said after the third round of negotiations that a deal was within reach but needed more time.

Trump admitted that the conflict carries risks, including possible American casualties. However, he insisted the action was necessary to protect U.S. national security.

The latest escalation marks one of the most serious direct confrontations between the United States, Israel, and Iran in recent years, raising concerns about the possibility of a wider regional war.
