The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man identified as Udeme Sunday Stephen in connection with the recent attack on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The arrest followed what officials described as a thorough investigation into the incident, which took place in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Peter Obi and some chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were reportedly attacked last Tuesday at the residence of ADC chieftain John Odigie-Oyegun.
According to Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, the attack happened shortly after the group returned from the ADC secretariat. They had gone there to formally welcome the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, into the party.
Security authorities have yet to release full details about the motive behind the attack, but investigations are ongoing. More updates are expected as the situation develops.
